Built in 1950 from a design by Kenneth Wing with the constant supervision of its owner, a civil engineer intent on perfection, the house was intended as a gift for his children and his wife. It was she who specified the oval staircase, the arrangement of the rooms, and hardwood floors throughout. The architect provided its four bay windows and traditional style. The children specified the pool. In its time this never-sold home saw the growth of three generations and became the center of gravity for a large and widely orbiting family. To those lucky enough to have felt at home there, it offered bedrock security and, in the afternoon breezes that sweep across its ample, raised back porch, an illusion of timeless serenity. Time will assert itself, of course, and in 65 years of careful maintenance the house has undergone repeated repairs, most recently the installation of all new copper plumbing. , it is seeming again like the blank slate it was in 1950, eager for a new beginning.
