This stately old house, built in 1909 by William Shagren, was originally built as his family dwelling for his dairy farm. The Shagren Belgian horses are a familiar site around Whatcom County and Washington State, and they had their beginnings on this homestead. Built in an Arts and Craft style, popular in this time period, the home was a well-known farmhouse in this area. Originally built without the convenience of bathrooms, one bedroom upstairs was converted to a large bathroom for the home in later years. Later, a closet on the main floor was converted to a 2nd bathroom. The home maintains it's historical feel with original, restored exterior doors, and most of the interior doors, trim, and hardware original to the home. The upper level has it's original fir floors. The back of the home was remodeled in later years to add a utility room, home office and garage to the dwelling. This home was in the Shagren family until the current homeowners purchased it in 1987.
